Golf and volleyball bow out as Cubs tennis and cross country gear up for end-of-season surge

Our Cubs golf and volleyball teams ended their seasons this week, while tennis and cross country are just warming up. On Tuesday, our golfers competed in the Prep League Tournament at Brookside in sweltering conditions. The Varsity six played nine holes in the prelims, with only the top 12 individuals advancing to yesterday's finals. Megan Moffat '20 and Amy Baum '22 qualified to play a full 18 holes at Brookside.
After the combined 27-hole scores were tallied, Megan shot a 141 for 5th—missing out on qualifying for CIF Prelims by just two shots—and Amy shot a 147 for 8th. It was difficult to say goodbye to Megan and her Class of 2020 classmates, Daniela Bachman and Emily Wallace, but they’ve had a great season (and career!) and Amy Baum's future as the leader of the Cubs looks very bright.

Last night also saw the end of the volleyball season. The Cubs traveled to Santa Ana to take on the #2-seeded Calvary Chapel Eagles. They were down 8-0 early, only to come storming back to a 17-17 tie before dropping the first set 25-22. The Cubs lost two more very evenly played sets, 25-23 and 26-24, to be eliminated from the Division 4 playoffs. We sadly say goodbye to four wonderful seniors, Hayley Eaves, Evy Favretto, Brianna Perez, and Sarah Smith. The future of the volleyball program also looks promising with so many players returning in 2020.

Varsity tennis, ranked #5 in CIF, had a good week heading in to next week's huge matches. On Tuesday the Cubs beat Flintridge Prep 14-4, and yesterday the Cubs beat Providence 17-1. The team now stands at 10-3 overall and is in second place in league at 6-3 with a huge senior night match-up next Tuesday vs. Westridge followed by the Prep League tournament on Wednesday at the Arcadia County Park. The Cubs have already clinched a playoff spot, but could host a first-round match with a win over the rival Tigers.

Cross Country has had the last week off from races, but now stands ranked as the #5 team in the STATE in Division 4! The Cubs are getting ready to host the Prep League Finals at Pierce College next Saturday, Nov. 2.

Believe it or not, two of our winter sports will begin practices next week, as basketball and soccer prepare for their 2019-2020 season, but it seems like cross country and tennis will be busy deep into November!

If you haven't already registered for the Fall Sports Banquet coming up on Wednesday, Nov. 6, please RSVP today! And don’t forget to order your trees, wreaths and garland from the Cubs Christmas Store—orders close Friday, Nov. 8!

Hope to see you at our tennis match on Tuesday to honor our seniors! Go Cubs!
