Cubs tennis and golf secure second-place spots as volleyball hits the road

Greetings from Phoenix, Arizona! This weekend, our Varsity volleyball team will compete against 95 of the best high school volleyball teams in the country in the 11th annual Nike Tournament of Champions. Today, the Cubs will be in pool play with Sage Hill (Newport Beach), Omaha Northwest (Nebraska), and Coconino (Flagstaff, Arizona) high schools. Based on our results, we will continue tournament play, with four more matches tomorrow. We will be tweeting live results throughout, so be sure to follow along @msscubs.
The Cubs return to Bellefontaine to host our biggest athletic event of the year on Monday afternoon—our annual Dig Pink volleyball games vs. FSHA in the Cubs Cave. Admission to the games is $5 for all spectators, and 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the Cancer Support Community Pasadena. Our students have been tie-dyeing shirts pink all week long in preparation for the event! In addition to being able to see two of the best volleyball teams in the Valley compete, the Booster Club is hosting a FREE BBQ for everyone. Plus, don’t miss the debut of our Mayfield Pep Band, helping to add to a fantastic atmosphere! It will be a beautiful afternoon and evening, so come cheer on the Cubs. The BBQ starts in the Senior Lot at 3:30 p.m. and the games start at 4:00 p.m., 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

The Cubs golf and tennis teams had a great week too. Tennis hosted Chadwick and their Wake Forest commit, Casie Wooten. Wooten is ranked #12 in the nation in her age group. Led by a terrific effort from our singles players, Samantha Frick '23, Sofia Mireles '20, and Sami Kennedy '20, the Cubs defeated the Dolphins 10-8. The win moves the #10-ranked Cubs into second place in league. Also moving into second place is our Cubs golf team—Mayfield has won five matches in a row after Tuesday's big non-league win over Marymount.

Cross Country will run in the Central Park Invitational tomorrow in Huntington Beach as the #9-ranked team in Division 4.

Lots of excitement for the Cubs—we really hope to see you in our packed gym on Monday; it should be a special night!

Have a great weekend and Go Cubs!
