Incoming freshmen are not only smart, they also love photography and volleyball!

The Mayfield Class of 2023 are volleyball and soccer players; they have a flair for theatre and photography; they are student council leaders, skillful debaters and fledgling journalists. But most notably, they are smart! Our 87-member freshman class has 67 honor roll achievers.
Before they officially set foot on campus in their new Mayfield uniforms, our incoming freshmen have already distinguished themselves. First, they were accepted from the largest pool of applicants in more than 10 years, a reflection of Mayfield’s strong standing among Catholic girls’ high schools in the region. Also, they represent the diversity of our community, with 59% identifying as students of color.

“Our freshmen will bring so much to Mayfield that will enrich our campus and contribute to bringing our Holy Child values to life,” said Director of Admissions Merilisa Ramirez. “Not only are they academically outstanding, but they have shown themselves to be engaged learners and are incredibly committed to developing and exploring their gifts.”

Here are some by-the-numbers fun facts about their top interests:
  • 59 photographers
  • 57 volleyball players
  • 43 soccer players
  • 41 actors and 41 dancers
  • 39 creative writers
  • 37 musicians
  • 35 Girl Scouts
  • 32 basketball players
  • 22 altar servers
  • 13 student council presidents
Sofia by far is the most popular name, with five girls claiming the name, although there are a few different spellings. September 29 will be a big day for cake and candles on campus as four girls share that birthdate. And freshman teachers will be doing double and triple takes in class with one set each of twins and triplets.

Our freshmen will arrive on campus from 39 different schools, and 24 are already trailblazers as the only girl attending Mayfield from their middle school.

“What we love about this class is the wide range of interests and the contagious spirit of enthusiasm they showed,” said Asst. Admissions Director Jade Stewart ’09. “It was such a joy to get to know them and their families during the admissions process. As an alum, I can’t wait to welcome them to Mayfield.”
