Primed for prelims and making a splash!

The spring postseason is off to a great start for the Cubs. Yesterday, Softball traveled to Redlands Adventist for a 1st round playoff game with the Bulldogs. After a 3rd place finish in league, the Cubs appear poised for a playoff run. Jenna Domingo '25 was sensational in the circle, as she gave up only one hit for the entire game, and the Cubs came away with a 15-0 victory. Next up for Mayfield, a home 2nd round matchup with the #2 seed, Katella, on Tuesday at Brookside Park.

On Tuesday, the Swim & Dive team competed in the CIF Prelims down in Mission Viejo.  After competing in Division 3 for the last 10 years, the Cubs were bumped up to Division 2 this season, but that didn't stop them from making a splash against the tougher competition. In the first event of the day, the 200 Medley Relay, the new school record holders Kate Georgino '25, Taylor Carey '22, Sophia Georgino '25, and Holly Gmelich '23 placed 6th overall to advance to the Finals. Each girl qualified to swim two events in the meet and the highlights were Carey's 5th place finish in the 100 Breaststroke, Sophia taking 11th in the 200 IM, Gmelich placing 11th in the 100 Free, and Carey coming back to place 13th in the 100 Butterfly. The four girls also combined to place 13th in the 200 Free Relay. The CIF Finals will take place this afternoon and you can watch the races live here or follow along with live results here.

Badminton completed their season with their competition in the Almont League Prelims & Finals this week. Playing against some of the strongest teams in the state, the Cubs did not have any girls advance to the Finals, however, one of our boys, Sophomore Ryan Zhu of Loyola, advanced to the boys singles semifinals of the tournament, the furthest a Loyola/Mayfield player has even been!

The Prep League champion Track & Field team will drive up the coast and compete in tomorrow's CIF Division 4 Prelims at Carpinteria HS all day. The Cubs are sending eleven girls to compete in a variety of events, and we have a great chance to have numerous girls advance to next week's Finals.

Finally, we launched our summer sports programs this week. In addition to the traditional offerings of Basketball, Cross Country, Tennis and Volleyball, we are excited to offer a Junior High Sports Cubs Camp for any girls entering 6th, 7th, or 8th grade next year. You can register your Junior High Cub-to-be on our website here and for those interested in our high school sports camps, please register here. Please reach out to me if you have any questions.

We hope you tune in to the swim meet today, and we really hope to have a great crowd for our 2nd round softball playoff game on Tuesday down at Brookside.

GO CUBS!
