A season of red hot starts!

In a season when each of the sports are off to red hot starts, perhaps the hottest team so far is the Swim & Dive team. The Cubs swept all 11 events in Tuesday's meet with La Salle and ran away from the Lancers, 124-44. With the return of the core of last year's league champion team and an influx of a strong group of freshmen, the Cubs are 6-0 on the season, including two league wins over Chadwick and Rosemead. This weekend the Varsity squad is up in northern California competing in the De La Salle Invitational against some of the best teams in the state. In their last meet before Spring Break, the Cubs will swim against FSHA at Occidental on Wednesday.

The Track & Field team continues to impress as well. After overwhelming their league foes in the first Prep League cluster meet earlier this month, the Cubs ran again on Wednesday in the second cluster meet. With most of the team competing in new events and experimenting with a different lineup, the team gained valuable experience. The Cubs placed 2nd this week, just behind Chadwick, but a slew of athletes had season-best times. Mayfield will be back in Covina at the District Stadium tomorrow to compete in The Qualifier—a great mid-season invitational.

The race for the league championship in softball looks like it will be a three-team race between Mayfield, Providence and Rio Hondo Prep. Each team will play each other twice and this week Providence got the best of the Cubs in a 5-3 victory. The young Cubs led 3-2 with an inning to go, but the Pioneers scored three unanswered runs to take the lead and win the game.  Mayfield will host Chadwick today and then Rio Hondo on Tuesday, looking to remain in the hunt for the league title and hoping to qualify for May's CIF playoffs.

A young and talented badminton team is still looking to gain its footing. The Cubs dropped their league opener yesterday to San Marino and will be right back at it this afternoon in a league match at San Gabriel.

With Spring Break on the horizon, all four spring teams are looking to pick up momentum to carry through the rest of the regular season and into the playoffs. Hope to see you at a match, meet or game soon. It is perfect weather to come cheer on your Cubs!

Go CUBS!!!
