Mayfield dominating Track and Field this Spring Season

The spring sports season just launched two weeks ago, but the early season results have been very promising for the Cubs. While Softball and Swim & Dive have both been impressive, the Track & Field team threw down the most dominating performance of the season so far on Tuesday. In the first of three Prep League “cluster meets” to be held at Burroughs HS, the Cubs look to be well on their way to a 7th consecutive league title. Mayfield overwhelmed the competition scoring 104 points—almost as many as the next three teams combined! Chadwick (48 pts.), Westridge (39 pts.), and Flintridge Prep (25 pts.) rounded out the top four teams. Six different Cubs won events—Sade Falese ‘23 (Long Jump), Zoe Griffin ‘24 (Triple Jump), Nikki Hensley ‘24 (100H), Cecilia Kvochak ‘23 (800), Erin Michelena ‘24 (300H), Sissy Page ‘25 (High Jump) as well as the 4 X 400 Relay team of Lara Georgian ‘25, Clare Kvochak ‘24, Sophie Limongelli ‘25 and Cecilia Kvochak ‘23. Tomorrow the Cubs will run in their first invitational of the year, the Colt Classic in Covina.
Softball looks to be the strongest team in years. The Cubs are off to a 4-2 start this season and overwhelmed Westridge, 15-0, in the first league game of the year. Mayfield went 1-1 this week with a 12-4 win over Campbell Hall and a 9-5 loss to FSHA. After the loss the Cubs now lead the Rivalry Series with FSHA 4-3. Mayfield will need to win one of the final two events—the Swim & Dive meet with FSHA on 3/22 or the Track & Field meet at CIF Finals—to see if the Cubs can clinch a 3rd consecutive title in the series.

The Swimming & Diving team has been impressive as well. Two non-league wins over Glendale (126-43), and Marymount (110-57) have the Cubs undefeated and looking forward to the start of league meets next week. The Cubs will compete in the Riverside Poly Pentathlon on Saturday.

Lastly, the Badminton team has been hard at work getting ready for their first match next week at Pasadena Poly. The Cubs have improved immensely in the past month and look forward to putting their skills into action next week vs. the Panthers.

Most schools have lifted any type of COVID restrictions and are open for visitors. The Cubs look like they will be competing for at least three league titles this season. Get on the bandwagon now and make it to a match, game or meet! The schedule is on the website and the girls LOVE when there are fans in the stands!

GO CUBS!
