Another successful week for the Cubs as the final push of the Fall season begins

As the calendar turns to October, the games get much more important for the Cubs. October is the month that league champions are crowned and the CIF playoffs get underway. The Cubs have had another successful week as the final push of the Fall season begins. Varsity volleyball has moved up to #4 in the latest CIF rankings. The Cubs swept Rio Hondo Prep on all three levels on Tuesday and, starting today, the Varsity team is in Phoenix to compete in the Nike Tournament of Champions against some of the best competition in the country. The Cubs open play this morning against a California top-10 team in Vista Murrieta. I’ll be posting live updates on Twitter all weekend @msscubs.
Tennis stayed at #10 in the latest CIF rankings and have had an up-and-down week. After the Cubs’ thrilling win over Westridge last week, led by our Athlete of the Week, Rebecca Leiva ’22, the Cubs dropped their match with Pasadena Poly on Tuesday to fall back into a tie with the Panthers and the Tigers for 1st. The Cubs got back on the winning track yesterday, defeating Chadwick on the road, 11-7. The Cubs will host Chadwick today, but the Prep League title looks like it will be a three-way battle for the top spot.

Golf continued to have growing pains with losses to Chadwick and Westridge this week, but the Cub spirit is still strong and the young team seems to improve by leaps and bounds with each practice and match. Cross country will run in their first race as an entire team in three weeks, as the Cubs head down to Huntington Beach tomorrow to run in the Central Park Invitational.

We have one of the highlights of our calendar this week as the Boosters host their annual Booster Club BBQ at our Senior Night volleyball game this Thursday, when the Cubs host Providence at 3:30, 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. There will be FREE FOOD, Cubs Store sales and great volleyball—plus a chance to honor our three graduating seniors playing in their last regular-season home game of their careers. The day before we will honor our two graduating golfers, so this is a big week for the Cubs! Make sure you get out to a game, join the Boosters and cheer on the Cubs!

Go Cubs!
