Helena Horton ’22 placed 2nd in the Varsity Jumpers, Hannah Attar ’21 placed 4th and 9th in the same division, but the team was led by our Athlete of the Week, Claire Williamson ’20, who earned a 2nd, 5th, and Reserve Champion in the Varsity Jumpers. It was a beautiful day for riding and the girls (and their equine companions!) represented Mayfield with grace and poise. Our next IEL show is in February and it really is a sight to behold—I highly recommend cheering on the Cubs ringside!
Our soccer teams had exciting games this week as well. On Monday, the Cubs took on FSHA in the latest installment of the Rivalry Series. After tying the game late in the first half, the Cubs gave up a second goal and fell to the Tologs, 2-1, in a terrific performance by both teams. The Cubs now lead this year’s series 4-2, with a chance to clinch at least a tie at next week's basketball game in the gym on Tuesday night. JV Red also played with spirit but was bested by the Tologs, too. On Wednesday, the JV White team scored their first goal of the year! Emma Watson ’23 blasted a goal from the corner and put the Cubs on the board!
Water Polo has two big games this week as they make their playoff push. On Wednesday, the team took on Milken at UCLA and soundly defeated the Eagles, 20-1. Today, in a very important league match, the Cubs will travel to take on La Salle in Arcadia.
Basketball continues to struggle in league, but gave Westridge all they could handle in a 42-41 loss on Tuesday night. The Cubs led throughout and came up just short in the end. However, the JV team handled the Tigers, 43-8, in the early game! Today the Cubs travel to Arcadia to take on Rio Hondo Prep.
Your chance to make it out to a winter sport is slipping away. If you haven't been to a game yet, you won't be disappointed. Our girls fight with great determination and are so easy to root for! Come to a game this week and cheer on the Cubs. The basketball games on Tuesday, Jan. 21 against FSHA are sure to be a highlight of the season. Our schedule for all of our sports is on the
website. Hope to see you at a game!
Go Cubs!
