Cubs turn up the heat this week with impressive rookie strength
The weather wasn't the only thing that warmed up this week! All four fall sports teams were in action with some great wins. Tennis has led the way so far this season with the Varsity tennis team 2-0 on the season after a convincing 12-6 win over Webb on Tuesday.
The Cubs have been led so far by freshman phenom Samantha Frick ’23. Frick has played six sets so far as a Cub and has yet to lose a single game. Frick has been so dominant that this week she received the honor of being named the Girls Athlete of the Week in the San Gabriel Valley by 210PrepSports. The Cubs will travel to Sylmar on Tuesday to take on Alemany.
Volleyball has been the busiest sport of all since the beginning of the season. And one of the best surprises has been the play of the Frosh-Soph team. Made up of mostly new Cubs, the team is off to a 5-1 record and is 2-0 in league after defeating Rio Hondo Prep on Tuesday. The JV team, also with a 2-0 record in league, has not lost a league match since 2017. Varsity evened its league record at 1-1 with their straight set victory over the Kares on Tuesday. All three teams face off against league favorite Pasadena Poly on the road today.

Cross Country will compete in their first meet of the season tomorrow (finally!) at the Rosemead Invitational. This unique event has competitors run only against other athletes in the same grade level. The freshman race begins at 4:00 p.m. tomorrow. The Cubs are still ranked #7 in Division 4, despite not having run in a race this season. It will be great to get on the course tomorrow.
Golf braved the elements and played two matches in the scorching heat this week, coming up short against South Pasadena on Tuesday, and falling in their league opener to Westridge yesterday.
Just a reminder to all—we will be taking our team photos for the Fall Sports next week after school. Golf and Volleyball will take their photos on Wednesday, Sept. 11 and Cross Country and Tennis will take their photos on Thursday, Sept. 12.
