We are the champions! Cubs score stunning results in Prep League Finals

Championship Week did not disappoint! The Cubs Swim & Dive and Track & Field teams BOTH competed in the Prep League Championships this week with stunning results that reflect our competitive standing in athletics.
Track & Field hosted the finals last night at Burroughs High School in Burbank, sealing our dominance in the sport with the Prep League Championship for the fifth consecutive year! The Cubs finished with 179 points, easily defeating Providence (98), Flintridge Prep (81), Pasadena Poly (72), and the rest of the Prep League. They asserted their distance power as usual, placing three runners in the top four of the 800, 1600 and 3200.

Audrey Suarez '21 continued her stellar season, winning the 800 and 1600. Sarah Tupy '21 showed her all-around talent, winning the 300 hurdles, and placing second in the high jump and the 100 hurdles. Jolie Beegle '21 was named the Field Athlete of the Year by winning the long jump, triple jump (in a school record), and placing second to our own Mia Koga '20 in the pole vault. To finish off the meet, Beegle, Tupy, and Suarez teamed up with Laura Arcia '19 to win the 4x400 relay in one of the fastest times in CIF this year, just missing the school and league records. The Cubs said goodbye to two seniors, Sophia Alvarez and Laura Arcia, who represented the Cubs in a Prep League meet for the final time.

On Wednesday afternoon the Swim & Dive teams competed in the Prep League Finals at Pasadena Poly. The Varsity team finished 3rd overall with 215 points while the JV team won their 15th consecutive league title by scoring the most points in history at the meet by a JV team, 170 points! On the JV level, the Cubs won all 11 events and were led by Gillian Gorocica '21 and Audrey Leung '22, who each won four events. On the Varsity level, the Cubs scored the most points at the meet than they have in four years and were led by Sami Pratt's '21 league championship swim in the 100 Butterfly. Pratt also finished fourth in the 100 breaststroke against a stellar field. Her time of 1:07.61 was the third fastest in school history and less than a second off of the school record and All American Consideration.

The Swim & Dive Cubs said goodbye to 15 seniors who represent the largest graduating class in school history on the Swim & Dive team. Ending their careers on a high note we honor these seniors: Erin Csombor, Maeve Davitt, Andrea Huerta, Julia Kasputis, Chloe Kessel, Lauren Kezele, Maddie Lewis, Heather Palomino, Colleen Pendergast, Karenna Perez, Catie Sanchez, Isabella Sanchez, Elsie Trujillo, Elysee Vielma and Valeria Zepeda.

The young and up-and-coming Badminton team said goodbye to their lone senior, Claire Chan, on Tuesday in her final match of the season.

Softball had this week off, but moved up to No. 3 in the latest CIF rankings. The Cubs will enter the playoffs as the second place representative from the Prep League when the pairings come out on Monday morning.

And finally, thank you to all of those who came to our Dads’ Poker Night last night. Believe it or not, the big winner of the evening was the host, Derek Pippert. However, all the dads had a great time and all of the proceeds go to support our student-athletes through the Booster Club.

The coming weeks should be very exciting as the teams compete in the CIF playoffs. Follow along on Twitter @msscubs for live updates as the Cubs compete for CIF titles.

Go Cubs!
