We're hosting a joint vaccine clinic at Mayfield Junior School next Saturday

L.A. County has started vaccinating 12 to 15 year olds, and so will we! In conjunction with Vons Pharmacy and Mayfield Junior School, we are having a Pfizer Vaccine Clinic for eligible students and family members on Saturday, May 22 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on the Mayfield Junior School campus at 405 S Euclid Ave, Pasadena, 91101. We’ll email you the link to sign up and complete the required paperwork as soon as Vons Pharmacy shares it with us.

We strongly encourage everyone who is eligible to be vaccinated. It is the power of vaccines that is driving our low and stable case rates and reduced transmission. As Dr. Ferrer says, "The most powerful tool to maintain our recovery progress is the vaccine.” It is important to remember those who are unvaccinated are at a greater risk of becoming sick with COVID-19 and a variant of concern. Vaccines are helping us return to our pre-pandemic lifestyle and will help us all celebrate prom, graduations and Father’s Day in a safer and healthier way. By being vaccinated, you are protecting not only yourself and your family, you are protecting everyone you come in contact with.

Once your daughter is vaccinated, even with only one dose, please send me a picture of her vaccine card. It is important that we are able to document how well vaccinated our student body is.

One of our very own students participated in a clinical trial for the Moderna vaccine in 12 to 15 year olds. We are incredibly proud of her for putting our “Actions Not Words” motto into such meaningful, and important, action. Pope Francis also promotes being vaccinated. He said, “I believe that, ethically, everyone has to get the vaccine. [The vaccine is] an ethical option because it concerns your life but also that of others.”

Here are several reasons to vaccinate 12 to 17 year olds:
  1. Asymptomatic, fully vaccinated individuals do not have to participate in COVID testing at school, work or athletics.
  2. Many colleges and universities are requiring students to be vaccinated.
  3. This age group is seeing more cases, mostly related to athletics and gatherings. Infected teens contribute to community transmission and could bring the virus home to more vulnerable family members who can’t be vaccinated.
  4. Vaccinated adolescents don’t have to quarantine or isolate following a known exposure, which could reduce school absenteeism and time off from work for parents.
  5. COVID-19 is in the top 10 causes of death in children under 17.
  6. While children do not die in as large numbers from COVID-19 as adults do, they can still become seriously ill. There have been over 13,000 hospitalizations for 12 to 17 year olds, and multi-inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) tends to be more severe in this age group than in younger children.
COVID-19 vaccinations are available at L.A. County-run sites and many community sites without an appointment. Anyone 12 and older living or working in L.A. County can get vaccinated. You need to bring a photo ID with you and adolescents should be accompanied by a parent or guardian. View this full list of sites across the county offering Pfizer vaccines to find a site near you where anyone 12 and older can be vaccinated.

Let’s continue working together to end this pandemic and keep one another safe.

Stay healthy!
