Cubs Athletics program is continuing its winning ways—what a season for our girls!
With the Fall Athletic season just now behind us and the Winter season now in full swing, Cubs Athletics is continuing its winning ways. Six teams won a Prep League championship in the Fall: JV Cross Country, both Varsity & JV Tennis, and all three levels of Volleyball—Varsity, JV, and Frosh/Soph! There are only 8 titles available in the Fall and Mayfield won 75% of them! What a season for our girls. Even with the winter chill in the air, the Cubs are continuing their hot streak in the gym, pool, and on the pitch! Varsity Basketball won their league opener on Dec. 13 and now appear poised at making the playoffs for the first time since the 2017-2018 season. The Varsity Soccer team is one of the best teams in the area and will be on the hunt for their first league title since the 1989-1990 team that went on to win Mayfield's only CIF Soccer championship. The JV team is also playing very well with a 4-2 record. Water Polo is much improved in 2022-2023 and will continue the pursuit of the school's first Prep League title with games against Westridge & Chadwick this week. Lastly, the Equestrian team had their 1st IEL show of the year back in October. Six Cubs represented Mayfield with style and grace and are already looking forward to the next show in January.
Dig Pink volleyball had a record turnout, the Cubs Christmas Store sold a record number of trees, and we have over 70% of the student body participating in sports! It is a great time to be a Cub! And for those following at home—the Cubs currently trail FSHA in this year's chase for the Rivalry Series, 4-3, with Mayfield getting huge victories in Soccer, Tennis, and Volleyball. Only Softball, Swim/Dive and Track/Field in the Spring remain to determine this year's champion.
