Cubs Varsity Volleyball are Prep League champions! Now get ready for “Dig Pink!”

Since 2013 the volleyball program has had some great teams. The Cubs have won league titles in 2018 and 2021 as well as numerous runner-up finishes and playoff runs. But in both '18 and '21, the Cubs shared the Prep League title finishing in a tie for first. Last night at Chadwick, the Cubs changed that trend. For the first time in nine years, Mayfield's Varsity volleyball team are the outright Prep League champions. The team now sits at 11-0 in league with just one more league game to be played, when the Cubs host 6th place Providence on Tuesday night when we will honor the four members of the Class of '23. The Frosh/Soph team also sits at 11-0, with another dominating victory on the road. JV dropped their first league game of the season, but with a 10-1 record and Tuesday's home game with Providence, the Cubs still look to win their own outright league title.

The tennis teams are looking to win their league titles after Varsity shared the 2021 crown, and they took a major step forward this week to repeat that success. The undefeated Varsity Cubs hosted the undefeated Chadwick Dolphins on Tuesday and came away with a 11-7 victory. The JV team easily handled the Dolphins, 16-2, and now both teams sit alone in 1st place. The next day Varsity came right back to host their annual Rivalry Series match with FSHA and in a back-and-forth match, once again the Cubs came out on top, winning 10-8 over the Tologs. Varsity's 3rd huge matchup of the week is today as they travel to Flintridge Prep, who sits in a tie for 2nd place with Chadwick currently.

The golf team dropped both of their matches this week, losing to Chadwick and Providence in a tri-match on Tuesday and then to Providence again yesterday. The team posted their lowest scores of the season and continues to improve as the Prep League Finals loom on the horizon—just two weeks away.

Cross Country has not raced in two weeks, but has been preparing for a huge meet tomorrow morning. The Cubs will travel today to Fresno to compete in the Clovis Invitational tomorrow on the same course that the state championship is held. The Cubs have had a great season and look to continue their winning ways against some of the best runners in the state.

Finally, we are just seven days away from the biggest event on the athletics calendar every school year: the Dig Pink match vs. FSHA next Friday night. The Booster Club will be serving free food for everyone in attendance and the action in the gym should be great. And best of all, the two schools are playing for a great cause: 100% of the donations taken at the door will be donated to the Cancer Support Community of Pasadena. It should be another special night with FSHA. Hope to see you there! GO CUBS!!
