A strong start of an exciting year!

The Cubs are off to a strong start to the 2022-2023 school year. We had a great summer of conditioning and training, and then tryouts for the four Fall sports (cross country, golf, tennis, and volleyball) were held in the middle of August. Over 140 girls came out for a fall sport—nearly half the student body! One of the most popular sports on campus, volleyball, has already played five matches! The Cubs were playing matches ten days before the first day of school! Varsity is off to another great start. The Cubs are 4-1 overall and 3-0 in the Prep League, having already beaten Flintridge Prep and Westridge twice. After traveling to San Marino today, the Cubs will host Rio Hondo Prep on Tuesday and then on Thursday, September 8, Pasadena Poly comes to the Cubs Cave in one of the biggest matches of the season. The JV team is sporting an identical record and the Frosh-Soph team is currently undefeated at 5-0, having yet to even drop a set. The gym appears like it will be an exciting place once again this fall!

The golf team once again had a large number of girls tryout for the team. The Cubs traditionally have one of the largest teams in the area and this year is no different. After graduating their top-two players, the team is young and inexperienced, but with new head coach Terry Cunningham at the helm, the team has a bright future. After dropping their season opening match to La Salle, the Cubs faced off on Tuesday with our rivals, Flintridge Sacred Heart.  Despite falling to the Tologs in the match, the Cubs score was 30 shots better than the week before. It is only a matter of time before the Cubs get their first win.

Tennis opened their season on Tuesday against Immaculate Heart, and both teams came away with a win. Varsity, coming off a season last year in which they won a league title and advanced all the way to the CIF Semifinals, is strong once again, defeating the Pandas 14-4. The JV team, with numerous freshmen playing their first match as a Cub, took home a 12-6 win over IMMAC. Yesterday's matches with FSHA were postponed due to the high heat.

Our large cross country team, with 24 girls, will have their first race of the season this Tuesday in the Prep League cluster meet at the Palos Verdes Peninsula Cross Country course. The team has been training hard all summer and had a great week of workouts in Big Bear in August. The Cubs look to get back on top in the Prep League.

With temperature soaring, there have been cancellations and adjustments made to the Athletics calendar. Please check the Cubs Calendar daily for updates. Follow Athletics on Twitter and the best way to support our girls is by making a donation to join the Booster Club. The Boosters provide support to all twelve of our sports on campus and their support is invaluable to our Cub student-athletes.

We hope to see you at a race, at the court, on the links, or in the gym soon to come cheer on your Cubs! This Thursday's volleyball game vs. Poly is the biggest game of the early season. GO CUBS!!!
