Head's Weekly Message — May 27, 2022

Dear Mayfield Senior School Community,

First, I want to thank our entire community for being so cooperative and supportive as we have been dealing with this latest COVID-19 wave. The really good news is that we are seeing fewer cases this week. Let’s all keep doing everything we can do to limit transmission right now so that we have a very healthy end to the school year—we have so much to celebrate.

The celebration of our arts program culminated last weekend with such wonderful performances and exhibits.  I want to thank the entire arts faculty for their dedication to helping our students grow in creativity, skill, and confidence.  I was particularly impressed by the amazing work on display last Friday including the hilarious one-act play written, directed, and produced by our Advance Theater students.  The instrumental concert last Sunday was also exquisite. Congratulations to all our amazing Mayfield artists!

This coming week—three days of transition activities and graduation practice for our seniors, and final exams for our freshmen, sophomores and juniors—will culminate with wonderful celebrations too. On Friday we will honor our students for all their hard work at our Awards Assembly. Students should arrive on campus by 11:15 a.m. and head to the gym wearing face coverings please. This year I am particularly excited to announce that we have added seven “Goal Awards” for each grade to acknowledge those students who have, in particular ways, lived our seven Holy Child Goals—related to Faith, Community, Curiosity, Justice, Respect, Growth and Mission.

After the assembly our celebration will continue with the 2022 Yearbook video, dedication and distribution. We will conclude with a celebratory Pie’N Burger lunch for everyone topped off with delicious Handel’s ice cream. Students do not need to be in uniforms but should dress appropriately wearing a Mayfield shirt or t-shirt on top. I know it’s going to be such a fun day.

The celebrations will continue with our Baccalaureate Mass on Saturday and conclude with our Class of 2022 Graduation Ceremony on Sunday. There are plenty of unreserved seats for both events—all are welcome!

As we complete this amazing school year—please be on the look-out for a parent survey that will be emailed this coming Tuesday. As we work to create the most inclusive, engaging and loving school environment we very much appreciate your anonymous feedback and suggestions. Thank you in advance for your support.

Finally, as our nation mourns the tragic deaths of nineteen Robb Elementary School fourth graders and two of their teachers, I know you join me in holding the Uvalde, Texas community in the Light as we pray for healing and an end to this senseless gun violence. Please click here for suggested resources and contact our School Counselor Erika Mastrobuono with questions and concerns.

And I’m wishing everyone a peaceful, reflective 3-day weekend, as we commemorate Memorial Day.

With Love and Gratitude
