Head of School's Message — Easter 2022

Dear Mayfield Senior School Community,

Spring 2022 has brought great joy to Mayfield Senior School.  What an amazing pleasure it has been to see face masks come off, scaffolding come down, and fences removed. As we continue to emerge from the pandemic and complete the renovation of our beloved Strub Hall home–we are so grateful for the strength and resilience of our Mayfield community. It is through their loving support and lots of prayers that we have weathered these last two years.

As I reflect back on the challenges we have all experienced–I have been inspired by reading Pope Francis’s recent book “Let Us Dream” which encourages us to embrace the transformative power of these times. The Holy Father asks us to open ourselves up to change–to arise from our trials and struggles reborn with greater empathy, generosity, and compassion.  Mayfield Senior alumna Heidi McNiff Johnson ’84 reinforced this idea for me in a recent talk she gave through our Inspire program. Heidi reflected on her own path of service and faith and that of others—finding their roots often in crucible moments of grief or loss—providing a beautiful and powerful metaphor as we ponder the ultimate sacrifice of Our Lord and our own rebirth through His resurrection.

So—as I each complete my Lenten journey and look forward to the glory of Easter I do so with hope and renewed commitment to our Holy Child mission seen through the beautiful vision of our beloved Founder Cornelia Connelly who wrote “this is the time to ask for great things: faith, zeal, generosity, humility, charity.” Through Cornelia’s grace and intercession this is my Easter prayer for our Mayfield Senior community—that this holy season of renewal inspires and energizes us, unites and connects us, and most importantly opens us up to the transformational power of God’s love.

With Love and Gratitude,

Kate Morin
