The Cubs are back in business! Fall sports teams off to an impressive start.

What a start! After spending a year and a half in a quiet gym, the Cubs have returned with a bang! We had a great summer camp with huge numbers for basketball, cross country, tennis and volleyball. And through the first two weeks of the regular season, it seems all that work has paid off! Volleyball has been the busiest sport so far. Varsity has compiled an 8-2 overall record, going 2-0 in league so far and 2-2 in the tough Oaks Christian Tournament last weekend. The JV and Frosh/Soph teams are both 6-0 overall and 2-0 in league. The teams have been dominant in their wins and travel to Glendale today before they take on Poly in two BIG matches next week.
Tennis is off to an equally impressive start. Varsity is now 3-0, having beaten Pasadena (18-0), South Pasadena (9-5), and then yesterday the Cubs defeated FSHA, 10-8, in a great match.  Samantha Frick '23 won all three of her singles matches and Sherly Cheng ‘23 & Rebecca Leiva '22 won their three doubles matches to clinch the huge win for the Cubs. The JV tennis team is 1-1 so far and earning valuable experience before the Cubs start Prep League play in a few weeks.

The golf team is the largest in school history with a number of new players, but they are improving with each practice. After their first three matches the Cubs are 1-2, but that lone victory was a huge one—over FSHA. So if you are keeping score, the Cubs now lead the Tologs 2-0 this year in our Rivalry Series!

The cross country team has been working hard for months and will finally get a chance to have their first race of the season today down at Brookside Golf Course in the Cool Breeze Invitational, against over 100 other schools. The JV will run first at 2:14 pm and the Varsity will run at 6:48 tonight for the Cubs. The team is young, but hungry for racing after logging hundreds of miles since June.

The schedules for all four of our fall sports teams are available on the online Cubs Calendar. We would love to see you out at a match, meet or race—the Cubs always rise to the occasion with large groups of fans in attendance. If you are looking for the next big game, all three levels of volleyball host Poly this Tuesday in the Cubs Cave in a battle of what appears to be the two best teams in the Prep League so far!  If you can't make it to campus, you can follow the games on Twitter @msscubs or you can watch the NEW LIVESTREAM of the games on the NFHS Network for a small monthly subscription.

It is great to be back and we hope to see you out cheering on the Cubs!

Go Cubs!
