Quiet week in Cubs sports still nets impressive wins

Our Cubs cross country runners had a terrific Saturday last weekend, coming away with two tournament wins and a third-place finish in another race. The Varsity team camped out under the stars in Ojai on Friday night and then ran in the Ojai Invitational Saturday morning.
The Cubs placed four runners in the top 10 (out of 166 competitors), led once again by Audrey Suarez ’21, who won the race by over a minute. The JV team also had a great performance, finishing in third place with a core group of young Cub runners, led by Natalie Miera '23’s eighth-place overall finish.

Not to be outdone, the JV volleyball team won the Silver Division Championship of the CV Falcon Tournament. The girls played seven matches on the day and defeated Eagle Rock in the Championship match.

On the whole, it was a much quieter time after the fireworks of last week. Golf picked up two nice wins, defeating Milken on Tuesday in a non-league match before traveling to Rolling Hills yesterday and handing Chadwick their first league loss of the year. The Cubs are right in the middle of the league championship race once again.

Volleyball had an up-and-down week. On Tuesday, the Frosh/Soph and JV teams both defeated Westridge to remain undefeated in league, but Varsity fell in a tough four-set match. Then yesterday, the bus to Chadwick broke down on the 110 freeway. Our late arrival to Palos Verdes meant that the JV game was canceled and Varsity had to take on the second-place Dolphins with little time to warm up. The Cubs performed mightily, sweeping Chadwick in three straight sets. The win puts the Cubs right back in the playoff hunt. The team will compete in the CV Falcon Classic today and tomorrow.

Both the cross country and tennis teams took the week off from competition, but everyone had a terrific time at the Fall Sports Pep Rally yesterday. The Cubs are getting ready to fight cancer in October at the Dig Pink match (and free Booster Club BBQ!) on Monday, Oct. 7 at 3:30 p.m. We hope you make plans to join us in the gym for this annual highlight of our sports calendar!

And don't forget to make it out to a game in the area to cheer on our girls—schedules are always posted on the Cubs Calendar!

Go Cubs!
