Head of School's Message — Summer 2019

Dear Mayfield friends,

We completed the 2018-19 school year with joy-filled celebrations honoring all the amazing accomplishments of our community—especially the beloved Class of 2019!

With much pride, we sent forth our newest alumnae to an incredible diversity of colleges throughout the country, reflecting the depth of the interests and passions they will pursue as young women of faith and so much knowledge. I am confident they truly will change the world for the better.

Also, as the year wrapped up, we welcomed our newest Mayfield students—the 87 members of the Class of 2023! Their middle school achievements and enthusiasm for learning will be a gift to our Holy Child school community.

I want to take this opportunity to thank our dedicated faculty and staff who worked with such creativity and enthusiasm to bring Cornelia Connelly’s educational philosophy to life.

It is with particular gratitude and love that we say goodbye to six members of our community. Laura Grimm will be retiring after many years of dedicated service to our school. In addition, faculty members Lili Hermeline, Tylene DeVine, Jim Loughrie, and Andrea Sweeney, and Communications Director Stephanie Chavez will be leaving Mayfield to pursue exciting career goals. We are so grateful for all that they have contributed as we wish them great joy and success in their new endeavors.

Over the summer, a number of our faculty members will be engaged in projects to enhance our curriculum in many different ways, especially around diversity, inclusion, equity and social justice initiatives. Others will be working on some exciting cross-departmental collaborations. Still others will be attending workshops and conferences to further hone their skills. I am particularly looking forward to attending the annual National Coalition of Girls’ School annual conference, which is being held right here in Pasadena!

I’m also excited to spend time with my family this summer—especially our baby Maddie, who is already eight months old. I wish you the most wonderfully blessed and fun-filled summer ever!

With Love and Gratitude,

Kate Morin
