Head of School's Message — Easter 2019

Dear Friends,

Spring has certainly sprung at 500 Bellefontaine! After a long and dreary winter it is so wonderful to see our students enjoying the beauty and warmth of our outdoor campus. Studying together at the tables on the Hayden Building terrace, having lunch under the Pergola, or just enjoying the sunshine while frolicking on the North Lawn—our students quickly welcomed and embraced our lovely Southern California spring.

With the air scented by orange blossoms and jasmine, we are reminded of the renewal that this season brings. For me, this has been very personal as we celebrated the Baptism of our first grandchild, Madeline Blake Morin, in our own Connelly Chapel. On the most beautiful sunny Sunday, family and friends gathered to welcome our precious baby into our beloved Church community, making her first Easter so special.

At Mayfield, the Easter season has been marked by energy and joy. This past week we welcomed a team of educators from our sister Holy Child schools to help us live our Holy Child mission in the deepest way possible. This is the culmination of over a year of study and reflection through our Mission Effectiveness Process. The visiting team’s report served as a wonderful affirmation that Cornelia’s vision is alive and thriving at Mayfield.

We can see this vision clearly in the remarkable achievements of our students. Our outstanding Women’s Ensemble choir inspired and impressed everyone while participating in the Festival of Gold earlier this month in Chicago. Our “mathletes” experienced a huge success competing in a national math modeling competition, and our robotics team is competing in a major world competition this weekend! Together with our amazing production of “Into the Woods” and great success for our athletic teams—I’m sure that Cornelia is looking down on the strength and beauty of our Mayfield Senior School community with pride.

This pride extends to our amazing alumnae as well. What a joy it was to welcome so many inspiring women back to campus for Homecoming and to hear all about how they are living and spreading our Holy Child mission of love and service. Mayfield alumnae give me such incredible hope and optimism as they work to bring peace and healing to our wounded world.

This Easter season, my hope is that you experience the renewal and joy of God’s presence in your life as we celebrate in gratitude Cornelia’s great gift and our Lord’s loving sacrifice.

Happy Easter!
