Venerable Cornelia, pray for us!

Every day, every meeting, every gathering at Mayfield starts with a prayer. We ask, “Lord, hear our prayer” and we ask our founder, Venerable Cornelia Connelly to pray for us. The integration of prayer in our daily lives defines so much of who we are as a Catholic, Holy Child school developing young women of faith.
We want to share with you what a distinctly teenager’s prayer looks like—and give you a chance to pray with our girls. These petitions were written by freshman English teacher Julie Sanchez ’11 as a beginning-of-semester gift to her advisory group. Her students read them this week a the opening of a school-wide assembly that we joyfully call “Community.”

In the name of the FATHER and of the SON and of the HOLY SPIRIT Amen

  1. Lord God, we thank you for this brand new semester. Through the intercession of St. Thomas Aquinas, patron saint of Catholic schools, academics, students, and teachers, whose feast we celebrate today, we ask that you hear our following petitions.
  1. Grant us wisdom, that we may make the right choices, even when sacrifice is required.
  1. Grant us patience, both with each other and with ourselves as we face a new semester and a new chance to approach our studies.
  1. Grant us confidence in our gifts and talents
  1. Grant us gratitude for our opportunity to learn in such a loving, safe, beautiful environment.
  1. Grant us courage to face the obstacles of daily life, even when we feel uncertain.
  1. Grant us resilience that we may face these challenges armed with the knowledge that we will grow stronger as a result of overcoming them.
  1. Grant us faith in ourselves, that we will use our gifts in service of others
  1. Grant us joy, that we may find something to celebrate in each daily task, no matter how seemingly small or uninteresting and that learning will always be sweet.
  1. We ask this in the name of your Son, the Holy Child Jesus, in whose spirit we are One, forever, and ever. AMEN
