Resources for New Families
Welcome to Mayfield! We’re so happy you’re here.
On behalf of the entire Mayfield community, we want to once again express our excitement and gratitude that you are a part of our Mayfield Senior School family! We hope the resources on this page will help guide your family through the transition to high school. Stay tuned — we will continue to add answers to frequently asked questions as the new school year approaches.

We have also highlighted some important upcoming dates for 9th-grade families on this page and the full school calendar is available on iMSS.
Freshman Orientation Days
Freshman Orientation Days — Thursday, Aug. 24 and Friday, Aug. 25
Ninth-grade students will have two orientation days to get to know each other and learn more about what to expect in the upcoming year.

Thursday, Aug. 24
8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

We have planned a special day of fun and friendship for our ninth-graders to gather on campus, get to know each other and learn about Mayfield Senior School’s traditions and student life. Students will also have lunch (provided) with their 11th-grade “Big Sister,” who will walk them through their class schedules. Students should wear comfortable casual clothes for a day of interactive participation!

Friday, Aug. 25
8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Ninth graders will be participating in an off-campus service project at the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank to build friendships and practice the Mayfield Senior School motto “Actions Not Words.” Students should bring their own bagged lunches and wear comfortable clothing with closed-toe shoes. Although this is a free dress day, we encourage you to wear your Mayfield t-shirts and sweatshirts to show your school spirit in our community!
There are two required permission forms for this off-campus service day:
  • Both parents and students are required to electronically sign the online Release Agreement for School Activities on iMSS before this service day. This is Mayfield's general field trip form and covers all off-campus activities throughout the year. If you have not already done so, please log into your personal iMSS account and click the yellow alert bar at the top of the page that says "You have 1 Form to Review."
Magnus Health forms due
Health forms must be completed ASAP
If you have not turned in your daughter’s health forms, please do so as soon as possible. All forms must be submitted before your daughter may attend class and school activities (including sports tryouts). Here's how to access the forms:
  • Log into iMSS (be sure to use your parent/guardian account and not your daughter's student account)
  • Click on the Resources page
  • Click on the Magnus Health button on the top row
  • Complete the online forms
  • Print out any forms, along with the fax cover page, that need your doctor's signature. Check that all forms have all the required information (doctor's office stamp, date of signature and all areas on the form are complete).
  • Upload or fax the forms to Magnus Health. If your daughter's physical is not scheduled until after August 1, please notify School Nurse Cathy Cota.
If you have any questions please contact Nurse Cota at (626) 799-9121 ext. 205.

Attendance FAQ
Q. What time does the school day start?
A. Classes begin at 7:50 AM every school day. We strongly suggest that students arrive before 7:45 AM.

Q. What time does the school day end?
A. The regular school day ends at 3:00 PM every day except Tuesday, when the school day ends at 2:25 PM. Conservatory classes meet 3:15 PM to 5:15 PM except on Tuesdays when they meet 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM.

How does drop-off and pick-up work?
Between 7:20 AM and 7:50 AM and between 2:30 PM and 3:00 PM (2:00 PM and 2:30 PM on Tuesdays) cars must enter the campus through the Bellefontaine Street gates turning right only. Drivers should follow the direction of staff members—exiting onto Grand Ave. Please remember to drive slowly through the neighborhood and do not use your cell phone while driving.

Q. What do I do if my daughter will be late or absent?
A. Please email Cathy Cota, our School Nurse, or call her at (626) 799-9121 ext. 205 by 9:00 a.m.

Q. What do I do if my daughter must leave school early?
A. Please send a note explaining the reason for an early dismissal to school with your daughter. She will present this note to Cathy Cota, our School Nurse, before school starts to obtain an Early Dismissal Slip. She will give the Early Dismissal Slip to the teacher whose class she will be leaving early. You and your daughter are to meet in the Health Office in Strub Hall (Room 205) so you can sign her out.

Q. How do I get involved as a parent?
A. We welcome our parents to become involved at Mayfield! There are many parent volunteer opportunities, including the Parents Board, the Booster Club and the Patrons for the Arts.
