Where Girls Build What’s Next
Mayfield is home to two all-girls FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) robotics teams, made possible through a breakthrough community partnership with the Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles (GSGLA). On our campus, students design, build, and test competitive robots in a dedicated 856-square-foot engineering space—turning ideas into action.
Two Teams. One Bold Mission.
Founded in 2007, Rock N’ Roll Robots was the first GSGLA-sponsored FTC team. As interest grew, Javabots launched in 2015 to open the door to even more girls. Today, both teams are award-winning and nationally recognized as model FTC programs.

Rock N’ Roll Robots (Team #25)

Javabots (Team #5218)
More Than Robotics
FTC competitors don’t just build robots—they build confidence, leadership, and real-world skills. Team members:
- Design and program robots using advanced engineering components
- Collaborate through problem-solving and iteration
- Develop skills in public speaking, writing, and community service
No prior experience is required—just curiosity and a willingness to learn.

“I joined the team with no real prior knowledge about robotics, but I allowed myself to dive right in and immerse myself in a world where I was learning incredible skills and meeting the coolest people ever!”
- Annie T. '19 (Duke '23)

A Community Team with Wide Reach
Our independent, Girl Scout-affiliated community teams welcome Girl Scouts from across the Greater Los Angeles region who can regularly attend meetings.
- Open to students in grades 7–12
- Members represent eight different school districts
- Led by a dedicated team of mentors, including engineers from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory
