In support of the school's mission statement to encourage broad participation in all sports while developing well-rounded student-athletes, the mission of the Mayfield Senior School Athletic Training Program is to build a program founded on integrity, responsibility and scientific evidence-based doctrine. The Athletic Training staff will provide every student-athlete with the best care using high quality techniques, in a professional, efficient, compassionate and service-oriented manner. A diversified program of prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation will assure a positive healthy recovery experience, a safe return to full athletic participation and continued athletic success.

What is Athletic Training?

A Certified Athletic Trainer is an allied health care professional who, upon graduation from a accredited Masters or Bachelor's university program, and after successfully passing the NATABOC certification examination, is qualified and appropriately credentialed according to state regulations to work with individuals engaged in physical activity in the prevention of injuries and illnesses, the recognition, evaluation and immediate care of injuries and illnesses, and the rehabilitation and reconditioning of injuries and illnesses, and the administration of this health care system. This individual must have current certification in CPR and be qualified in first aid and blood borne pathogens. She must be registered with the National Athletic Trainers’ Association.

From on-field emergency care to follow-up treatment and rehabilitation, athletic trainers provide professional health care to injured athletes.  A main focus for the athletic trainer is prevention of athletic injuries. They work closely with the rest of the sports medicine team, including doctors, physical therapists, coaches and parents. Once certified, they must meet additional continuing education units to remain certified.  For more information on athletic training visit the National Athletic Trainers’ Association website
