Christmas is here—and so are our trees! Winter sports show solid progress in the lead-up to Prep League play.

The highlight of this week was the Booster Club’s annual tree pickup day last Saturday, heralding the arrival of the Mayfield Christmas season! Our wonderful Booster Club distributed more than 160 beautiful, fresh Christmas trees. Thank you once again to everyone who supported our Cubs athletes in this season of giving!
The winter sports teams continued their hard work in preparation for Prep League season, which starts in earnest after the Christmas break. All three teams were back in action this week, competing hard. The week started with a nice surprise—on Monday, the previously unranked Cubs soccer team was rewarded for their successful 4-1-1 start to the season with a #5 CIF Southern Section ranking. The Cubs continued their fine play this week with a 1-0 win over Immaculate Heart followed by a 1-1 tie with Webb yesterday. This weekend, the Cubs will play in the highly competitive Best in the West Tournament. Pool play opens tomorrow with two games at Westminster High School. Last night the JV team also picked up a nice win, 4-0, over Webb, with Eva Gullon '23 leading the Cubs with a hat trick!

Basketball and water polo have also had great games this week. The Varsity Basketball team has been beset with injuries, but continues to work towards league play. The Cubs are competing in the Webb tournament all this week out in Claremont. Water Polo battled La Salle in a high-scoring affair on Tuesday before dropping a 16-14 game. Today the Cubs take on highly ranked Pasadena Poly on the road.

The games will continue next week, our final week of school in 2019. Our schedule is always updated on the Mayfield website and we hope to see you come cheer on the girls at a game. And, don't forget, our alumnae basketball and soccer games are set for Saturday, Dec. 28.

Go Cubs!
