Summer Institute

Dive into something cool this summer!
Between June 19 and July 28, students in grades 5 to 12 can explore their interests in vibrant and innovative programs that are designed to enrich mind, body and spirit. Mayfield’s Summer Institute offers more than 30 courses, from full five- or six-week immersion programs (some of which are UC-accredited) to shorter, intensive workshops in subjects ranging from algebra to baking!

NEW Science & Tech courses just announced!
Creative Coding I (for academic credit, flexible schedule)
This course is an introduction to the integration of computer science and visual arts that teaches students JavaScript through creativity and collaboration. Most of this 40-hour course is done at your convenience from home, with flexible timing for hour-long weekly check-ins with a teacher. This course is a UC-approved elective that will appear on the student’s transcript with a pass/fail grade. Students may also "audit" the course for no listing on a transcript.
System Requirements: A modern browser - ideally Chrome, but Firefox or Safari would work. Vidcode is not fully supported on iPads, but any laptop or desktop computer would work.
Cost: $100

Exploration in Energy
June 23 - July 28 (Fridays only, 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM) 
Have you ever wondered where the electricity in your computer comes from? Who makes sure that the lights stay on? If you have ever wanted to look behind the scenes of the modern world of electricity, then this is the course for you. This course plans to answer some of the fundamental questions surrounding energy in our world today: Where does it come from? How do we make it? How do we get it? 
Prerequisite: Knowledge of the fundamentals of Algebra required (Open to students in grades 8 to 12)
Cost: $450
