A. Mayfield students come to us from 65 different Catholic, independent, and public school's and represent many different racial, ethnic, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Our students hail from all over Los Angeles County, but most come from the Pasadena/San Gabriel Valley area. Most incoming freshmen know only a few other students before they enroll, so the atmosphere on campus is very friendly. Students are eager to get to know each other!

Q. What do you look for when admitting students?
Mayfield Senior School admits the best-qualified applicants. We seek students who possess character, scholarship, curiosity and love of learning. In addition, Mayfield expects to enroll students who value integrity, loyalty and service. In evaluating applicants, the Admissions Committee creates a context for each student, and tries to assess the student’s ability and eagerness to benefit from and contribute to Mayfield. The following are criteria that the Admissions Committee considers when making its decisions:
  • Application, including student essay
  • Interview
  • Admissions testing (ISEE)
  • Transcript, emphasis placed on 7th and 8th grades
  • Recommendations (academic and personal)

Q. Where do Mayfield Senior School graduates attend college?
A. 100% of our students are accepted to college. Our graduates enroll at small liberal arts colleges, large research universities, and public and private institutions in the West, South, Midwest and on the East Coast. Graduates of the Classes of 2014–2017 are currently attending 108 colleges and universities across the country and around the world. See the Class of 2017 Matriculation List.

Q. What are the advantages of attending an all-girls school?
A. Studies have shown that students at single-sex high schools outperform their peers in a co-ed environment in all areas: academics, leadership, community participation, and personal development. Learn more about the benefits of attending an all-girls school.

Q. Is financial or merit aid available?
A. Yes. Approximately 30% of the student body receives tuition assistance. Mayfield Senior School offers both need-based and merit-based financial aid.

Q. Will applying for financial aid affect my chances for admission?
A. No. It is important to note that applying for financial aid has no bearing upon the Admission Committee's decision and assessment of an applicant's potential as a Mayfield student. Decisions regarding financial aid are made after admission is determined.
